This granular pest control product also prevents new mounds from forming and protects your whole lawn with just one broadcast treatment. For best results, apply with a Scotts® drop or broadcast/rotary spreader when ants are most active in morning or late evening and when temperatures are between 65°F and 80°F. Water granules in after application. Do not allow people and pets to re-enter treated areas until granules have been watered in and area has dried. One 11.5 lb. bag of Ortho® Fire Ant Killer Broadcast Granules covers up to 5,000 sq. ft. of lawn space. This is step 2 in the Ortho® 2-Step System to control fire ants. Start with Ortho® Orthene® Fire Ant Killer1 (sold separately) as Step 1 to destroy existing mounds. Then, use Ortho® Orthene® Fire Ant Killer Broadcast Granules to prevent new mounds from forming.

Watering Tips:
This product is for outdoor use only. Fire ants are best treated at the source - their mounds, which they typically build in lawns, fields, or pastures. If you're seeing ants indoors, you're probably dealing with a different type of ant, like sugar ants, pharaoh ants, or carpenter ants.
It's best to apply when ants are most active: in the early morning and late evening. Applying during these cooler times of day is better for you, too, since you won't be out during the hottest part of the day. Just make sure temperatures are between 65°F and 80°F.
The best way to keep your pets safe is to follow all label directions. That means not allowing people or pets to reenter treated areas until granules have been watered in and the area has dried.
Fire Ants
This product is extremely toxic to fish and aquatic invertebrates. To protect the environment, do not allow pesticide to enter or run-off into storm drains, drainage ditches, gutters or surface waters. Applying this product in calm weather when rain is not predicted for the next 24 hours will help to ensure that wind or rain does not blow or wash pesticide off the treatment area. Sweeping any product that lands on a driveway, sidewalk, or street, back onto the treated area of the lawn will help to prevent run-off to water bodies or drainage systems.
Do not allow people and pets to reenter treated areas until granules have been watered in and area has dried.
