Description

Don't settle for short-term mosquito relief. Kill and prevent mosquitoes* with the Ortho® Home Defense® Mosquito Kill & Prevent station. Backed by scientific research, this system uses mosquitoes'* own breeding behavior against them to control mosquito* populations over time. This contained and targeted approach doesn't use broadcast sprays, repellents, flames, or batteries, and is easy to set-up and maintain for continued mosquito* control. It's technology that's available to pest control pros, now available at a DIY price. How It Works: 1. ATTRACT: The station mimics the ideal breeding site to lure in adult mosquitoes*. 2. CONTAMINATE: Once inside, mosquitoes* lay their eggs while also becoming contaminated with a dual-action formula. 3. SPREAD: Adult mosquitoes* exit the station and continue breeding, spreading the formula to the other sites they visit. 4. CONTROL: Adult mosquitoes* die within 9 days. Mosquito* larvae inside the station and at the other sites adults have visited are killed by the formula. This system effectively kills and prevents new mosquitoes* from developing. *Aedes and Culex ssp

Where Not to Use

  • Stations attract mosquitoes*. Avoid use in or near high traffic and recreational areas of your yard. *Aedes and Culex spp

Where to Use

  • For outdoor use only. Place outdoors near bushes, trees, property lines, the edges of your property, or at the edges of your house. Area should be shades and near human habitation. Avoid areas that are in direct sunlight. Place at least 1 station every 4,300 sq. ft. Do not exceed 15 stations per acre. Place where mosquito* breeding can be expected. For best results, be sure to remove existing mosquito breeding areas, such as standing water, unused containers, empty flower pots, plastic cups, car tires, etc. Place in areas where children and pets cannot access the stations. *Aedes and Culex ssp.

When to Apply

  • Set out mosquito stations when mosquitoes appear, or before mosquitoes are expected to emerge in your area.

How Often to Apply

  • Check water periodically and refill as needed. Replace the refill band every month.

  1. Remove the station locking cap, lid, and floater from the station base. Fill the base with clean tap water up to the fill line (approx. 1 gal. or 3.8 L).
  2. Holding the base, place the station filled with water into its final position in your landscape or yard.
  3. Shake the refill package thoroughly. Open and remove the band. Be careful not to spill any of the package contents.
  4. Place the refill band onto the floater.
  5. Shake any remaining powder and tablets inside the refill package into the water and dispose of the empty packaging.
  6. Gently place the refill band with the floater attached over the center columns inside the station, flat on the water within the base. DO NOT ALLOW THE REFILL BAND TO GET WET.
  7. Attach the lid to the base.
  8. Set the current month on the station cap by twisting the dial to remind you when the refill band was last replaced.
  9. Place the station cap onto the lid and base.
  10. Replace refill band every month and periodically check the base in between refills to maintain water level.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the best way to get rid of mosquitoes?

During peak seasons, mosquitoes can breed fast, making them a difficult bug to control. While many methods offer temporary or immediate relief, few address the problem at its source: the breeding cycle. Mosquito stations use that breeding cycle against them, working to prevent new mosquitoes* from emerging and taking over your backyard. If mosquitoes are already plaguing your yard, we recommend a multi-step approach with a mosquito killer or repeller for immediate (though temporary) relief and mosquito stations to control the overall mosquito* population over time and provide long-term control. *Aedes and Culex spp

Mosquito repellents only provide coverage for individuals. While they can be effective at keeping mosquitoes away for short periods of time, they don't kill or prevent mosquitoes. Some find the smell or residues left by repellents unpleasant. Mosquito repellers offer more coverage, but typically under 500 sq. ft. That may be enough to protect your patio, but it's not going to cover your whole yard. Like repellents, repellers don't actually kill mosquitoes; they just keep mosquitoes away from a small area. Each Ortho® Home Defense® Mosquito Kill & Prevent station protects 4,300 sq. ft. Mosquito traps, such bug zappers and sticky traps, kill any mosquito unlucky enough to fly in. Mosquito stations, however, take control one step further by killing mosquito* larvae inside the station and other places where adult mosquitoes* lay eggs. *Aedes and Culex spp
